The Skinny on the Dip

The Real Deal (Project Description)

I have heard some interesting rumors about the Soledad Pool Renovation project around town. They have been as abrasive as, "why the heck are you making it an outdoor pool?!" to as far-fetched as, "you closing and filling in the pool?" So, we thought you'd like to know what is really going on:

The Soledad Pool Renovation project is limited to only the swimming pool room. The roof, wall panels, main structure beams, and the entire southwest wall will be removed. New steel beams, wall panels, roll-up doors, and roof will be placed. Additional renovations or additions will be made: the parking lot, pool deck shower, water fountains, and a heating/ventilation system in the pool room.

The lobby and locker room renovations are pending until finances allow. The same goes for the The Rec's visionary dream of adding water features someday, such as slides, spray pads, and a climbing apparatus.

So Far. (Project Update)
The week of February 11, 2008 demolition began on the Soledad Pool Renovation project. Roof panels were ripped noisily from the purlins, purlins torn mercilessly from the beams, and the beams.gently and slowly removed by crews and cranes. It was an exciting few weeks of really visible and large-scale changes around here. Work is scheduled to be completed by the middle of May, and the Soledad Pool is to reopen around June 1st.

Currently, the smaller-scale details of renovating an old building are taking place: saw-cutting cement, digging up old footings and creating new spaces for the new beams, and troubleshooting underground. Old plumbing and electrical are being removed to make room for the new.

Hopefully, you can take this real info on the Soledad Pool Renovation project and celebrate along with us the many years of hard work by staff and our volunteer board members to bring this project to fruition. We are sure excited to add a renovated aquatic facility to our list of top quality programs: remember, The Rec is "more than just swimming"!
